We had another long weekend in May due to Pentecost Sunday and Monday. Looking for things to do, I polled the expat Drama group I joined. One member suggested a bike ride to the La Trappist Brewery outside of Tilburg.
Google maps gave us a scenic route right along a canal, but it was 30 km one way, making the total trip 37 miles!
After we arrived at the brewery/monastery, we we couldn’t actually tour La Trappist because we didn’t have a reservation – this was even longer than our trip for bread!
So, we settled for a beer and some cheese and mustard.
Our bikes, while great for around town, are not that efficient. The weight of the bikes (40-50 lbs), internal hub gearing, and addition of five 750ml bottles of some delicious Trappist brew made for slow riding all the way home. Still, not a bad trade.
